Exit5, an interactive production company based in New York called me to help develop and deploy a web site to follow exacting design specifications from BBDO NY, the advertising agency of record for HBO. Working with Illustrator/PDF files, I created an XHTML / CSS web site with jQuery and a PHP backend. With the help of a talented back-end developer, we deployed an approved system in a 6 day development cycle.

The site features an AJAX / REST framework with animated transitions and custom scrolling lists. Flash Uploader and JWPlayer widgets were leveraged to reduce the de-bug tail, and deliver reliably on the widest possible browser range.

AJAX, jQuery, JWPlayer and Flash uploader were just some of the technologies we leveraged to ship in a short window.

Villa Pamela is an exquisite vacation rental property in Cabo San Lucas. The client had invested in professional photography of the property and the surrounding area, and the beauty of the property was self evident.

The strategy for Villa Pamela was to coordinate the graphic appeal of the site with the existing brochure materials, and highlight the photography already provided. Finally, the slide show was accented with some appropriate music, and the details of the property was exposed in HTML below the jQuery slideshow feature to allow Search Engine Optimization. The client was trained in Adobe Contribute, empowering him to modify the site without requiring help from HTML professionals or an expensive Content Management System.

Lone Mountain Ranch has been at the forefront of internet tourism marketing for over 2 decades. I have redesigned the Lone Mountain Ranch site 3 times over the span of that time, making Lone Mountain Ranch one of my longest running clients.

This last redesign covered all aspects of the brand of the ranch. Once again, a vast library of photography was at the core of the strategy for this design and architecture. The site is a combination of PHP, XML, Flash and HTML. Since many of the site’s customers were still on older browsers, traditional HTML Transitional mark-up was necessary. To make the design flexible and easy to maintain, a PHP based navigation system was injected into a traditional Dreamweaver template structure. The PHP fed the Flash slide-show area the appropriate slides for each page, and redrew the page for “print” views. This is the most successful design for Lone Mountain Ranch yet, garnering a completely full reservation roster for two years running and thousands of registered guests for email promotions.

Vala-Christensen is a Landscape Architecture firm based out of Portland, Oregon. They have a unique need – a portable presentation system that could double as a “remote” slide show with customers.

Telling the complete story of “design-build” architecture without long text sections was a major concern with this design. The answer was a slide deck that lays out the process from concept to complete with sub titles and mini slide shows of each step.

The site was designed as a completely Flash driven experience, with XML and updateable assets, so the site could grow with the company’s roster. However, a server side component was employed to create Print views of any slide show they encountered.
